Smoki Musaraj.

I am a cultural anthropologist specializing in economic and legal anthropology. My research focuses on theories of money and value; speculative bubbles; anthropology of corruption and the rule of law; migration and remittances; postsocialist transformations; and societies of the Mediterranean.

I have researched and published on ponzi schemes, mobile money, corruption, media whistleblowers, speculative economies, migration and remittances, and urban temporalities and materialities in postsocialist and Mediterranean spaces.

Currently, I am working on a new project entitled, Mediterranean Dreaming: Migration and Tourism in Maritime Cities. I began researching this project in Fall 2023, while serving as Germaine Tillion Chair at the IMéRA Institute of Advanced Studies in Marseille, France.
